Actions and challenges that have shaped business management over the past 25 years
Coinciding with the twenty-fifth anniversary celebration of the UOC, the following article aims to review the main transformations that the basic areas of business have undergone over the past two and a half decades. For this, we have enjoyed the participation of five female and five male professors in the studies of economy and business, who have given us some broad strokes on some of the main changes during this period and the challenges still to come. These topics are: leadership, decision-making, internationalization, digitalization, strategy, adaptation to change, ethics, corporate social responsibility, diversity, inclusion, business modal innovation, and finance.

Doctorate in Applied Economics from the International University of Catalonia. Degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the UB. Took the Programme of Directing and Managing Family Business at the Business Institute. Researcher with the research group TAXBusiness aimed at the search and dissemination of the impact of work relationships and taxes on companies. His interests focus on matters relating to family businesses and public economics.
BSc and MSc in Physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). MBA and PhD in Management Sciences from ESADE (Ramon Llull University). He was a visiting researcher at the Warwick Business School of the University of Warwick, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford. His current research focuses on topics relating to the strategic management of information and knowledge, social media, competitive intelligence, innovation and complexity in organizations. He is the head researcher for the consolidated research group KIMO on the management of information and knowledge in organizations, and he directs the Master in Strategic Management of Information and Knowledge in Organizations at the UOC.
Doctorate in Business Administration and Management from the UPC and degree in Research and Market Techniques from the UB. Currently a lecturer at the UOC and member of the research group i2TIC. She has 10 years’ experience as head of business creation and 10 years’ at an academic level in social insertion.
Doctorate in Management Sciences from the IESE Business School, University of Navarra, degree in Law from the UOC and Industrial Engineering from the UPC. She has published several articles both in specialist academic magazines and in information magazines aimed at a professional audience.
Researcher with the research group for Process, Product and Production Engineering (GREP) at the UdG. Specialist in the analysis of consumer behaviour in the tourist sector and post-consumption behaviours in settings of collaborative economy. Author of articles and book chapters in indexed research magazines. Her academic and research activity is also related to the field of quality management, environmental management and social responsibility.
Doctorate in Economics and Business from the University of Barcelona. In March 2019 she was named vice chancellor in Competitivity and Employability at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, a newly created post. Previously, from October 2010, she was head of Economics and Business Studies. For years, she has worked in both research and teaching in topics relating to economic-financial management at various Spanish universities, working professionally in the same field. Her teaching work has been recognized with various teaching and research accreditations.
Doctorate in Political Sciences and Administration from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Master’s in International Management from the Community of European Management Schools. Degree & MBA from ESADE Business School. Her interests focus on gender studies, entrepreneurship and work-life balance. She has taken part in several research projects on these topics.
Degree and doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences, associate professor in Economics and Business Studies at the UOC, head of the inter-university doctoral programme in Business Administration and Management, and researcher with research group DigiBiz. His area of knowledge is applied economics and his research activity primarily focuses on the fields of international economy, economic geography and processes of business innovation.
Researcher with research group GO2SIM aimed at researching, creating and disseminating methods and tools for teaching innovation. Doctorate in Business Administration and Management from the University of Barcelona. His research interests are linked to management and head decision-making.
Doctorate in Economic Geography from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Associate Professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Senior Lecturer at Cranfield University, and Graduate Faculty at Central Washington University. He has published numerous scientific articles in the field of air travel management. He has also advised public and private organizations in Europe, the UK and America, and has contributed to international media channels such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Economist, CNN and BBC, among others.
